Rumor: New Persona 5 Spin-off Game in the Works

It appears Atlus may be planning to create another Persona 5 spinoff, as a recent domain registration has come to light. This is only a few months after a potential leak that pointed to the possible release of a Persona 3 remake.

The gaming studio Atlus had a hit on their hands with the release of Persona 5, and they followed it up with the rhythm game Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight for the PS4 and PS Vita in 2018. P-Studio, a subsidiary of Atlus, then teamed up with Omega Force to create Persona 5 Strikers, a hack-and-slash action RPG inspired by Omega Force’s Dynasty Warriors series. Available for PC, PS4, and the Switch, the game scored highly with critics upon its 2021 release. Persona 5 Strikers received glowing reviews.

It appears that Atlus could be introducing an extra game to the Persona 5 universe in the near future. Twitter user MbKKssTBhz5 reported that the P5T.jp domain was registered on May 16, although there is no publicly available information about the owner. This practice is consistent with the company’s marketing partner, Ryu’s Office, which began concealing domain registrations in late 2021, after the revelation of Persona 5 Royal and its two spin-offs plus other Atlus titles.

Atlus has been the owner of the P5T domain for some time, but this could be only to protect existing trademarks and prevent copycats. Since 2018, the studio has held multiple Japanese domains related to Persona 5, such as P5B, P5U, and P5M, but these have yet to lead to anything.

A less probable explanation is that the P5T domain might be linked to Black Wings’ imminent mobile game, Persona 5: The Phantom X. It is an RPG and as P5X.jp is still not registered as on May 24, Atlus could be using a different title for the game in Japan, for example “Persona 5 Tactics”. Black Wings ended the first beta test of the mobile game in early April, which means the timing of the domain registration is in alignment with the chance that Persona 5: The Phantom X will be released soon.

It appears that the next installment of Persona news is close at hand. Various reports suggest that Atlus and Sega will be unveiling the Persona 3 remake during the upcoming Xbox Showcase on June 11. Although Sony has their own PlayStation Showcase on May 24, it is not clear yet whether Atlus will partake in that event.
