Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Performance Issues
Respawn Entertainment made the call to not push back Star Wars Jedi: Survivor a second time, even though it was initially set to be released on March 17th 2023. At the start of January, it was declared that the game would be delayed for six weeks. The reason for this was that the team was near the end of the development process but needed more time to add finesse and resolve any performance and stability issues.
Many gamers have been left puzzled as to why [Star Wars Jedi: Survivor] was released on April 28th considering the serious technical issues the game has been plagued with. From performance issues to just difficulties installing a legitimately purchased copy on PC, the game has earned a torrent of negative user reviews on Steam and Metacritic. This stands in stark contrast to the generally positive feedback the game has received from critics.
In March, during an IGN interview, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Game Director Stig Asmussen mentioned that the team of Respawn rejected the option of delaying the game’s release once more. Asmussen also noted that the six-week delay was enough for the team to finish the game. He declared that one of the reasons for the April 28 launch was the other titles released around the same time, and this was a bigger concern than if the game was ready to be released. Gamers are not pleased with the launch state of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, considering Respawn also chose not to delay Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which experienced similar issues when it was first released in 2019. Nevertheless, Fallen Order was an immense success for Respawn and EA, receiving various awards and having substantial sales, so Respawn and EA provided a sequel only three years later.
In comparison with its predecessor, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has garnered more attention than Fallen Order, with higher concurrent players on Steam and peak viewers on Twitch. Though the sales of Survivor haven’t yet equaled Fallen Order, it is anticipated that it will eventually exceed these figures. In the meantime, Respawn has been striving to settle the problems players are facing and has issued updates across all platforms with more to come.
Gamers can now access Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on their PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X/S console.
