Animal Crossing: New Horizons Player Returns After One Year, Sees Shocking Message

A retired Animal Crossing: New Horizons player returned to the game after putting it away for a year to find a shocking but pleasant surprise. Stepping outside, a message popped up informing the Animal Crossing: New Horizons player of an unbelievable amount of bells being deposited into their account.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a game that’s impossible to play over a weekend. Ever since the game was released in March 2020, fans of the series have put countless hours into the title. For some players, it can take years to make the perfect island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. However, not every player has kept their enthusiasm for the best-selling title. Some players get bored and put the game away forever, while other players take a few months or more off. When a player returns to the game after a long period of time, they return to a home infested with roaches, an unkempt beard for some avatars, and maybe a few thousand bells sent to their account after dropping off some items at the overnight box.

For Reddit user Ughdaylight, something shocking happened. The second they walked out of the door, Ughdaylight received a message from Tom Nook’s son Tommy informing them of a payment of 20,889,600 sent directly to their account. Although there are plenty of ways to make bundles of bells in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, 20 million bells in one day would seem unbelievable for most players. Ughdaylight posted a screenshot for proof, stating that they can’t remember what they sold the year prior. The humorous part of the message is the phrase “for what” at the end. It’s phrased in a way that makes it seem like even Tommy is surprised.

In the comments of the Reddit post, Ughdaylight mentions that they most likely sold a ton of royal crowns, gold armors, sharks, whales, blue rose wreaths, gold rose wreaths, and a random assortment of items in their pocket that needed to be cleaned out. The Reddit user also admitted to being a bit of a hoarder. Another explanation could be the interest earned over a year’s time, but this is unlikely due to Nintendo’s nerf on the bell interest system.

Of course, it is possible that the Reddit user stumbled upon a bug that inflated the number of bells they were supposed to receive that day. It’s hard not to speculate about all the possibilities that could have occurred here, as many players have in the comments of this post. One last thing that needs to be taken in consideration is that the player only receives 80% of what they put in the overnight box, meaning that Tom Nook took his cut of five million bells. This proves that at the end of the day, Tom Nook is still king of Animal Crossing.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now for Nintendo Switch.
