Stardew Valley: Mastering the Greenhouse
The Greenhouse in Stardew Valley is undeniably one of the finest farm buildings at your disposal. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you make the most of it!
Stardew Valley, the beloved farming simulator, intricately mimics the four seasons’ influence on your farm, crops, animals, and daily routine. This nuanced approach is what endears players worldwide to this captivating title.
As you progress in the game, acquiring new content and honing your farming skills, dealing with seasonal fluctuations becomes second nature. The Greenhouse, a structure that enables you to cultivate crops indoors regardless of the season, plays a pivotal role in this process. This guide is your key to unlocking the full potential of this invaluable addition to your farm.
How to unlock the Greenhouse
Unlocking the Greenhouse Upon commencing your farming journey and clearing away the initial debris on your land, you’ll come across the remnants of a dilapidated Greenhouse structure. This is the foundation on which you’ll build your Greenhouse.
To restore the Community Center through offerings to the Junimos, you must complete all the bundles within the Pantry. Upon successful completion, the Junimos will work their magic overnight, reconstructing the Greenhouse for you.
Alternatively, if you’ve chosen the Joja Warehouse route over the Community Center, you can acquire the Greenhouse by investing 35,000g in the Joja Community Development Project. Upon payment, a Joja crew will promptly undertake the Greenhouse’s construction.
Greenhouse Dimensions and Key Details
The Greenhouse structure occupies a 7×6 space on your farm.
Pro Tip: If you prefer a different location for your Greenhouse, Robin, the town’s skilled carpenter, can relocate it once construction is complete. Visit her while she’s at the Carpenter’s Shop, and you can move it just like any other building.
Within the newly erected Greenhouse, you’ll find a farmable plot measuring 10×12. Here are some essential facts to remember when tending to plants inside:
- Rain does not water the crops.
- Scarecrows are unnecessary for protection.
- Lightning never strikes your crops.
- Crops from any season can coexist here simultaneously.
- A trough of water is situated on the northern wall of the Greenhouse, allowing easy refilling of your watering can.
What Can You Cultivate in the Greenhouse?
The Greenhouse accommodates the growth of all crop types, enabling plants from diverse seasons to thrive alongside each other without hindrance.
However, there are two exceptions to this rule:
- Bee Houses do not produce honey when placed in the Greenhouse.
- Giant Crops cannot be cultivated within the Greenhouse.
Fruit Trees
Fruit Trees flourish splendidly within the Greenhouse. They can be planted on the standard farmable soil, but they also have the unique capability to grow on the Greenhouse’s outer boundaries, where regular crops cannot take root.
To ensure successful growth, adhere to these guidelines:
- Avoid placing any decorations, including paths.
- Maintain a minimum gap of two spaces between each tree, positioning each tree in the center of its own 3×3 square.
Note: The decorative items lining the Greenhouse walls do not obstruct the growth of Fruit Trees. Since these decorations are non-interactive, the game registers the space as vacant, allowing the trees to thrive.
Once a tree reaches full maturity, feel free to embellish the spaces between them with decorations or pathways. The only area where they cannot be planted is in the corners.
